Taraba: Group buys APC form for David Kente

A political group in Taraba state has purchased the All Progressives Congress governorship nomination form for Chief David Sabo Kente ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election, in a move seen as a major boost to his ambition.

Kente, a prominent APC stalwart and philanthropist, formally accepted the nomination form on Saturday after reportedly bowing to sustained pressure from party stakeholders and support groups across the state.

The form was purchased by a political group led by a former State Secretary of the APC, Hon. Godwin Villannah.

The development followed a series of consultations and high-level meetings with political leaders and stakeholders in Wukari between April 14 and 15, 2026.
Sources within the party disclosed that Kente had initially resisted efforts to draft him into the race but eventually agreed after repeated appeals from influential figures and pressure groups within the APC.

His acceptance is being interpreted by political observers as a significant step in the evolving political landscape of Taraba, with many describing his entry into the contest as a potential game changer.

Kente is widely regarded as one of the leading figures in the APC in Taraba, having played a key role in strengthening the party’s structure in the state since 2016.

Over the years, he has built extensive political networks and maintained a strong grassroots presence, factors expected to shape the dynamics of the party’s primary election.
In his acceptance remarks, Kente urged APC members, stakeholders and the people of Taraba State to rally behind his aspiration.
He pledged to provide inclusive leadership and pursue people-centred policies if elected governor.

The politician is also expected to unveil detailed policy proposals and intensify consultations across the state as preparations for the APC primaries gather momentum.
His emergence is likely to heighten political activities in Taraba as parties begin early positioning ahead of the 2027 elections.
