Omoyele Sowore has resigned as the National Chairman of the African Action Congress (AAC) after emerging as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
The announcement was made by the AAC on Tuesday shortly after the party concluded its presidential primaries in Abuja.
According to the party, Samuel Ajeigbe has now been appointed as the new National Chairman following Sowore’s resignation from the leadership position.
AAC Announces Leadership Change
In a statement released after the primaries, the party confirmed the transition in leadership and welcomed Ajeigbe as the new chairman.
The development comes as the AAC intensifies preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sowore secured the party’s presidential ticket through a unanimous endorsement by delegates and party stakeholders during the exercise held in the Federal Capital Territory.

Speaking after accepting the nomination, Sowore said the AAC was created to build a better Nigeria free from corruption, insecurity and poor governance.
He praised party members for remaining committed despite political and economic challenges facing the country.
The activist also criticised the ruling APC, questioning claims about the party’s membership strength ahead of the 2027 elections.
