The Kwara state police command has confirmed the killing of three Mobile Policemen, (MOPOL) following a deadly attack on its police mobile force (PMF) camp at Tenebo village, Kaiama local government in the early hours of Saturday, 2 May, 2026.
The state Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, who described the incident as heinous and a cowardly act, said the “fallen officers paid the ultimate price in the line of duty, bravely standing to defend the safety and security of our communities. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.”
The command extends its heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased officers during this moment of immense grief.
“We also pray for the swift recovery of the injured personnel currently receiving treatment. No words can fully capture the pain of this loss, but the command stands firmly with the bereaved families and assures them of our unwavering support.
CP Ojo Adekimi vowed that the command will deploy all available operational, intelligence, and tactical resources to ensure that the perpetrators of the barbaric attack are tracked down and brought to justice.
“There will be no hiding place for those responsible,” according to a statement e-signed by the state police public relations officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi.
Meanwhile, the command said its operatives have arrested six suspected kidnappers and recovered firearms following a coordinated intelligence driven operation in Baruten local government area.
Disclosing this in a statement e-signed by its spokesperson the police stated that two locally made rifles and six mobile handsets were recovered from the suspects.
The statement reads “On 23rd April 2026 at about 0030hrs, a case of kidnapping involving one Isaq J. ‘M’ of Boriya Village via Okuta was reported at the station. The suspects had demanded a ransom of N50,000,000. Upon receipt of the report, the command immediately activated a coordinated manhunt, mounting sustained operational pressure on the criminal elements, which led to the eventual release of the victim.
‘Subsequently, on 30th April 2026 at about 2015hrs, one Mohammed Shede ‘M’ of Boriya Village was arrested in connection with the crime. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to providing actionable intelligence to members of the gang identified as “Smalley” and “Borugujo which facilitated the tracking and abduction of the victim at his farm.
“Further investigations led to the arrest of additional suspects, namely Abubakar Aliu ‘M’ (identified as the gang’s armourer), Abu Sonkpia ‘M’, Saliu Yakubu ‘M’, and Sanni Sakariyau ‘M’, all of Boriya Village. The suspects confessed to their involvement in the kidnapping as well as an armed robbery attack on one Muhammed Manu of the same community.
“Exhibits recovered from the suspects include two locally made rifles and six mobile handsets.
“Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate, including the aforementioned “Smalley” and “Borugujo,” along with two additional accomplices currently at large as Investigation progresses.
“The command urges members of the public to continue to provide credible information to aid ongoing security operations.”
