The Nigerian Army has arrested a suspected terrorist informant believed to be working with insurgent groups in Borno State.
The suspect had reportedly been under close surveillance for some time before troops moved in to apprehend him, in an effort to dismantle local support networks aiding insurgents.
The arrest followed sustained intelligence-led operations, with troops acting on information linking the individual to activities associated with extremist factions.
The operation took place in Ngamdu, Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State, at about 6:00 p.m. yesterday. It was carried out by troops of the 154 Battalion at the local market.
A security source familiar with the development said the suspect had already been placed on a watchlist prior to his arrest, in a carefully coordinated operation aimed at avoiding alerting possible collaborators.
During the arrest, troops recovered a mobile phone, ₦1,150 in cash, and other materials believed to be relevant to ongoing investigations.
Authorities say the items may provide leads into communication channels and financial transactions linked to insurgent networks.
The suspect is currently in military custody and undergoing interrogation, according to the source.
“Preliminary questioning is ongoing, and efforts are focused on extracting actionable intelligence,” the source stated.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspect’s involvement and to identify any wider connections within terrorist cells.
