Soldiers fighting under Operation Hadin Kai have killed five suspected terrorists during an ambush in Borno State.
The operation took place on April 29 in the Mayanti area, where troops from a forward operating base were conducting ongoing military operations under Operation Desert Sanity.
According to sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama, the soldiers set up an ambush based on reliable intelligence and later made contact with a group of insurgents in the evening.
“The troops engaged the terrorists effectively upon contact, resulting in the neutralisation of five of them,” a source said.
After the clash, troops recovered items believed to belong to the fleeing fighters, including two bicycles, pieces of fabric and food supplies used for logistics.
The soldiers have since moved to another position to continue operations and limit the movement of terrorists in the area.
Military authorities say troops remain highly motivated as they sustain pressure on insurgents across the North-East.
Operation Hadin Kai has recently stepped up ambushes and clearance missions aimed at weakening terrorist groups and restoring normal life in affected communities.
