A Level of Sale (POS) operator, Goodluck Jaja, has been arrested by the Edo state Police command for allegedly aiding a syndicate of cops concerned within the abduction and extortion of residents in Benin Metropolis.
The command stated the suspect offered his POS facility for the fraudulent withdrawal of cash from victims who had been allegedly pressured beneath duress by the gang.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Eno Ikoedem, who acknowledged this in a press release Tuesday stated the arrest adopted a collection of complaints from members of the general public over harassment and unlawful extortion by people posing as cops alongside the Teboga axis off Aduwawa in Benin Metropolis.
Eno stated the syndicate intercepted unsuspecting victims, forcefully conveyed them across the metropolis, and compelled them to withdraw cash via POS operators.
The PPRO added: “Investigations led to the arrest of different members of the community, together with serving and dismissed police personnel, in addition to two drivers believed to have facilitated the operations.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, had ordered a discreet, intelligence-led operation which led to the breakthrough and subsequent arrests.”
