Nigerian Navy Nabs Pipeline Vandal Leader, Associate in Bayelsa
The Nigerian Navy has arrested a suspected pipeline vandalism kingpin and his associate in Bayelsa State, in a targeted operation against crude oil theft in the Niger Delta.
The suspects, identified as Godwin, also known as “Idiot,” and one Happiness, were apprehended by personnel of Forward Operating Base (FOB) Formoso during a raid at Egbama-Angalabiri in Ekeramo Local Government Area.
The operation, carried out in the early hours of April 25, 2026, followed credible intelligence linking the prime suspect to a pipeline vandalism syndicate operating along the Clough Creek axis.
According to a statement by the Director of Naval Information, Capt. Abiodun Folorunsho, the suspect was initially arrested at a night market where he was allegedly extorting illegal levies from traders.
He said a follow-up operation at the suspect’s residence met resistance from armed members of the syndicate, but naval personnel responded swiftly, forcing the attackers to retreat.
A search of the residence led to the recovery of two handheld radios and other tools suspected to have been used for illegal activities.
Folorunsho added that further intelligence obtained from the suspect led to the arrest of his associate and the recovery of a pump-action gun.
The Navy said the suspects have been handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps for further investigation and prosecution.
It reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against crude oil theft and other forms of economic sabotage, warning criminal elements to desist or face decisive action.
