The Nigeria Revenue Service has dismissed as false a viral infographic circulating online that claimed the Federal Government had introduced a new vehicle tax effective July 1.
In a statement issued by Special Adviser to the NRS Chairman, Dare Adekambi, the agency said the information did not originate from it or any government body and should be disregarded.
The misleading graphic reportedly directed owners of private, commercial, and corporate vehicles to pay an unspecified tax online or through designated banks and agencies, while also providing a link that falsely referred users to an official website.
Adekambi clarified that the website listed in the message was incorrect, stressing that the genuine portal of the agency is the official NRS website.
He added that no new vehicle tax has been introduced by the Federal Government, describing the viral post as fabricated and intended to mislead the public.
The NRS urged Nigerians to rely only on verified government communication channels and official platforms for accurate information on tax policies and related updates.
It also warned the public against sharing unverified content circulating on social media, reaffirming its commitment to transparent and accurate dissemination of tax-related information.
