Ebonyi state authorities has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Nworie Chukwu, the third Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki, describing his demise as a monumental loss to the Church and society.
In an announcement issued on Saturday, Governor Francis Nwifuru stated he acquired the information of the Bishop’s transition “with a coronary heart weighed down by deep sorrow, but comforted by the everlasting guarantees of God.”
The governor described the late Bishop as “a revered shepherd of God’s flock and a non secular colossus whose life embodied humility, sacrifice, and undiluted devotion to the service of God and humanity.”
In response to him, “his transition marks the tip of an period of profound non secular steering, ethical readability, and fatherly management in Ebonyi State and past.”
Nwifuru famous that the late cleric, a local of Ededeagu Umuezeokohu in Ezza North Native Authorities Space, “distinguished himself as an icon of religion, a promoter of peace, and a tireless advocate for justice, unity, and love.”
He added that “by means of his pastoral mission, he touched numerous lives, strengthened households, and nurtured the non secular development of our folks.”

Reflecting on the Bishop’s life, Nwifuru cited 2 Timothy 4:7, saying, “I’ve fought battle, I’ve completed my course, I’ve saved the religion,” noting that “Bishop Chukwu lived a life worthy of this testimony.”
He prolonged condolences “to the Supreme Pontiff, the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki, the Catholic Bishops’ Convention of Nigeria, the clergy, spiritual, and the quick and prolonged household of the late Bishop,” including that “we share in your ache at the same time as we have fun a life properly spent.”
The governor prayed that “the Almighty God, in His infinite mercy, will grant his light soul everlasting relaxation and provides all who mourn him the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” concluding, “Adieu, trustworthy servant of God. Relaxation within the bosom of the Lord.”
