Broadoaks British School rolls out scholarship programme for children

The management of Broadoaks British School, Abuja on Thursday announced the launch of a comprehensive scholarship programme for willing school children in Nigeria.

Disclosing this in a press conference, the Head of school Dr. Jill Cowie said said the scholarship programme was in line with the core vision of the academic centre.

She also said that already that a scholarship assessment day has been scheduled for May 16, 2026.

Talking about the school philosophy, Dr. Cowie said, “At Broadoaks, we believe that education must go beyond examination results. Academic standards are extremely important to us, but equally, we are committed to developing well-rounded young people—students who demonstrate kindness, resilience, leadership, and a strong sense of purpose. This scholarship programme allows us to recognise excellence in all its forms and invest in the future of exceptional young people.”

She then buttressed the essence of the scholarship vis-a-vis the school’s focus in the overall well-being of a child.

She said, “The Academic Scholarship pathway identifies students with high cognitive ability and strong academic potential, using internationally recognised assessments alongside school records and interviews. At the same time, the Specialist Scholarships highlight the school’s growing strength in sport and creative arts, with structured assessments in athletics, swimming, football, music performance, and visual arts.

“Broadoaks has made significant investment in building a vibrant co-curricular programme, ensuring that students have opportunities to excel beyond the classroom. Scholars are expected not only to achieve highly, but also to contribute actively to school life as leaders, ambassadors, and role models .

“Importantly, the programme also includes provision for means-tested awards, ensuring that financial circumstances do not prevent talented students from accessing a Broadoaks education.

“More than a financial award, the scholarship programme provides access to a rich package of enrichment opportunities, including leadership roles, academic extension, competitions, and personalised university guidance—supporting students as they grow into confident, capable global citizens.”

The Head of school also posited that “At the heart of Broadoaks lies a clear vision: to provide an inclusive, holistic British education that develops not only academic success but also character, confidence, and compassion. The new scholarship programme reflects this philosophy. It offers both Academic Scholarships and Specialist Scholarships in Sport, Music, and Art, recognising that talent and potential take many forms. As outlined in the school’s policy, the programme seeks not only to reward achievement, but also to widen access to high-quality education and support students from diverse backgrounds.”

Responding to questions, Dr Cowie said that as part of efforts to ensure holistic development of its pupils and students, the school had participated in a World School Games event in Doha earlier in 2026.

She listed Athletics, Football and Swimming as Sports the school trains and exposes talented children while hoping that in the future, Broadoaks will produce superstars in Nigeria and at global stage.

Also speaking Head of Secondary of the school, Mrs Bukonla Paseda, highlighted the broad base spectrum of the institution’s whole academic pursuit aimed at ensuring that it continuously creates a sound learning environment.
