Activist Omoyele Sowore has criticised President Bola Tinubu over his assent to the Electoral Act 2026 (Modification), alleging that the regulation is aimed toward weakening free and credible elections in Nigeria.
Sowore, a former presidential candidate and writer of Sahara Reporters, made the remarks in a publish on X on Wednesday.
His phrases: “Tinubu has now signed the 2026 ‘Electoral Act,’ a regulation designed to undermine and finally forbid free, honest, and credible elections in Nigeria.
“We should resist this assault on democracy. They’ve dared the individuals. Now we should confront them, WE should rattling their impunity.”
Tinubu signed the amended Electoral Act into regulation on the presidential villa in Abuja earlier on Wednesday.
The presidency and leaders of the Nationwide Meeting have stated the modification strengthens transparency, together with provisions for digital transmission of outcomes and direct primaries by political events.
