VIDEO: Lagos Taskforce arrests 26 miscreants for aiding unlawful waste disposal, extortion racket
In separate enforcement operations on Tuesday, the Lagos State Environmental Process Power arrested 26 suspects for extorting cash from cart pushers illegally disposing of waste on the Orile Underneath Bridge, and cleared illegal settlements alongside the Coastal Highway.
In keeping with the Commissioner for the Setting and Water Sources, Tokunbo Wahab, the suspects had been facilitating indiscriminate waste dumping in alternate for money.
In his put up on X, Wahab famous that, performing on credible intelligence that hoodlums had hijacked the Orile Underneath Bridge space, the taskforce operatives launched a raid at roughly 2:45 p.m. to dislodge miscreants extorting cash from unlawful cart pushers.
He wrote, “Following credible studies that hoodlums had taken over the Orile Underneath Bridge and had been extorting cash from cart pushers who dump refuse illegally within the space, the Environmental Process Power carried out a raid at about 2:45 pm at this time.
“Throughout the operation, 26 suspects had been arrested. A few of them admitted to accumulating cash from cart pushers in alternate for permitting indiscriminate dumping of waste.
“They’ve been taken into custody for additional investigation and crucial motion in step with the legislation.”
The Commissioner added that earlier that morning, at about 8:00 a.m., the company operatives intensified the continuing city regeneration train alongside the Coastal Highway.
“Hoodlums had transformed the highway setback into makeshift dwellings, erecting a number of picket sheds and occupying the hall unlawfully,” he wrote.

PUNCH reported on Monday that the Lagos Waste Administration Authority mentioned it has seized a number of waste carts and arrested a person throughout an early morning enforcement operation on Lagos Island, following focused surveillance of unauthorised waste disposal inside the space.
Earlier in January, LAWMA was additionally reported to have arrested a number of cart pushers for illegally dumping waste alongside the Lagos–Badagry Expressway, Ojo, as a part of efforts to curb environmental degradation within the space.
