El-Rufai Supporters Tear-Gassed At EFCC Headquarters Amid Corruption Probe

Supporters of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai have been tear-gassed and dispersed by safety operatives on Monday as they gathered on the headquarters of the {Economic} and {Financial} Crimes Fee (EFCC) in Abuja.

The protesters had converged on the anti-graft company’s workplace in solidarity with El-Rufai, who honoured an invite by the Fee to reply to allegations of multi-billion naira fraud and corruption throughout his tenure as governor of Kaduna State.

Eyewitnesses mentioned the demonstrators have been chanting and demanding transparency within the investigation when safety personnel moved in, firing tear fuel canisters to disperse the group. The scenario was introduced below management shortly afterwards.

The event comes days after the previous governor reportedly narrowly prevented arrest by operatives of the Division of State Providers (DSS) on the Nnamdi Azikiwe Worldwide Airport upon his return from Cairo, Egypt.

Talking in an interview shortly after the airport incident, El-Rufai alleged that the Nationwide Safety Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, was behind the strikes towards him.

He mentioned Ribadu was the “brains” behind what he described as his ordeal.

Neither the EFCC nor the Workplace of the Nationwide Safety Adviser has issued an official response to the allegations.
