The second annual Women Who Build Africa (WWBA) Assembly will be held in Nairobi, Kenya on September 5–6, according to the organization, which was founded to bring together and assist women investors, builders, and leaders throughout Africa.
Gwera Kiwana and Thea Sokolowski founded WWBA in 2022 with the purpose of bringing together female and non-binary entrepreneurs, investors, and operators from all over Africa in order to provide vital connections and support.
The organization provides venues and chances for marginalized people to get together, exchange ideas, learn, and interact on the continent and beyond. Tickets are now available for the community’s second annual gathering, which will be held in Nairobi in conjunction with the Africa Fintech Summit, following a sold-out debut event last year.
This year’s event will span two days, with workshops for founders on September 5 including a “reverse pitch” in which investors will showcase their companies to founders on stage. The second day will feature a full conference day with panels, fireside chats, discussions, and social events in addition to an early-stage pitch presentation for ten female entrepreneurs from throughout Africa.
“Our first assembly was incredibly inspiring and effective. Attendees were not afraid to speak up, share insights and ask questions. We learned that many female-led startup founders were already running lucrative businesses, yet struggled to raise funds for their next stage of growth. We saw firsthand that a coordinated effort like the WWBA Assembly generates positive outcomes for female founders, operators and investors and has a net-positive ripple effects on our whole ecosystem. We’re extremely excited to bring this back in an even bigger way this year,” said Gwera Kiwana, WWBA co-founder, and VP of Partnerships at Onafriq.
