Vanderpump Rules has failed to live up to the hype of Scandoval – it's a snoozefest

Season 11 of Vanderpump Rules hasn’t lived up to the hype, it’s boring and we need to talk about it. I’ll admit, I became obsessed with the show after the revelations of Scandoval last year, binge-watching ten seasons of the show in an embarrassingly quick time. I was hooked. You can imagine my excitement when the eleventh season finally dropped, but it’s a huge disappointment, and I’m not the only one who thinks it.

March 3 2023 is a date that will stick in the heads of every Vanderpump Rules fan around the globe. The date changed the trajectory of the show forever, was when it came out Tom Sandoval was having an affair with Raquel Leviss. Or Rachel as she now likes to be called. The aftermath was shown on the final ep of season 10, and the explosive three-part reunion. It was reality TV gold, but season 11, which aired nearly a year after one of the biggest reality TV scandals of recent times, has massively failed to live up to the hype.

Unpopular opinion: Raquel’s presence may have saved the show

Any VPR fan would probably hate to admit this but without the presence of one-half of Scandoval, Rachel, the show can’t live up to its full potential.

The 29-year-old has made it clear she doesn’t want anything to do with the show, or the cast since the big scandal broke, but it means we’re now only getting half of the drama.

Of course, Sandoval is still there, but the energy we were seeing the rest of the cast excerpt at him at the reunion is long gone. In fact, Lisa Vanderpump and Co. are actually starting to feel sorry for him.

James Kennedy had one of the most epic lines we’ll probably ever hear at the reunion *cough* worm with a mustache *cough* but even he has even mellowed towards Sandoval in the latest episode, as they were seen having a ‘heart to heart’ on their trip away to Lake Tahoe.

What seems like years later, Sandoval finally did what he should have done at the beginning and apologized to James, who seemed to accept it. Whether he actually forgave him or just kept it moving for the “positive vibes,” who knows? Either way, it didn’t bring the drama we usually love James for bringing.

The trips away always used to be the most drama-filled scenes of the series, so I was certain things would pick up this week, but it’s the complete opposite. It seems like this trip may have caused everyone to almost make up with Sandoval, apart from Ariana Madix and Katie Maloney of course, who opted to stay home.

Even on that front, we were promised the grand opening of Madix and Maloney’s Something About Her sandwich shop, but we’re five episodes in, and the most exciting news we’ve heard about it is that someone pooped on the porch.

Honestly, when Rachel’s old dog Graham Cracker has become the star of the show, you know something’s not right.

The era of back-alley fights in SUR is long gone

All Day 1 Vanderpump Rules fans know the best drama happens in the back alley of SUR. Or, used to.

In episode three we thought we may be getting a taste of the old Jax Taylor, Stassi, and Kristen drama when Scheana Shay told Sandoval to meet her in the back alley for a confrontation. To our dismay, there was a lack of drink-throwing, and shouting, and although they heavily disagreed, the pair had a mega-calm convo, in reality TV terms.

Ok, granted we get they’re a lot older and a lot more mature now, but that may be where the problem lies. Someone with a child, a husband, and a huge career, is not about to go into a full fit of rage in front of millions of people. It’s what the audience wants, but unfortunately, we’re not going to get it.

Maybe the cast has outgrown the show, or maybe the show has outgrown Bravo with it’s lack of drama. They had a lot to live up to this season, and unfortunately, they missed in every aspect.

We do have the new Vanderpump spin-off, The Valley, to look forward to, starring Kristen, Jax, and Brittany along with a whole new bunch of faces, so maybe we can find some drama there.

Brb, going to re-watch the old seasons for the drama I so desperately crave.
