Footballer who lost young daughter to cancer is expecting baby with 'old friend'

Footballer Ashley Cain, reality TV star and footballer, is joining The Full Monty cast to pay homage to his late daughter, Azalea, who lost her battle to cancer in 2021. The star split from Azalea’s mother, a dental nurse called Safiyya Vorajee, in 2022 after a four-year relationship. Now, he’s becoming a father again.

Ashley Cain doesn’t have a new girlfriend

ITV star Ashley has confirmed he is not in a relationship with the mother of his second child but he is planning on being a hands-on father to a little boy. He has known the woman since he was 18.

He told The Sun: “I am really, really excited and happy and I can’t wait to see what this next part brings.” Ashley has described the mother of his second baby as a “really nice person” who is “good to be around”.

Speaking about the mother of his second baby, Ashley said: “I got a call from a girl I was seeing who I have known since I was 18. We are friends and have met up on and off over the years.”

Azaylia lost her battle with acute myeloid leukaemia – a condition the youngster was diagnosed with at just eight weeks old – in April 2021. As a result of the condition, she developed tumours on her lungs.

She also had tumours on her stomach and kidneys and underwent several gruelling rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant before the condition sadly claimed her life.

She passed away peacefully in the arms of her parents at their home in Nuneaton in April 2021. A charity was later set up in her memory, The Azaylia Foundation, to help others going through the same situation.

He joins The Full Monty to raise awareness

The former professional footballer recalled his and his ex-partner Safiyya Vorajee’s last moments with Azaylia on The Full Monty, where he admitted he feels “angry” about losing his daughter.

He said: “Me and Safiyya had a sense that it would be [Azaylia’s] last morning. We wrapped our arms around her and counted her last breaths. I couldn’t see a reason for me to be on Earth anymore.”

“Becoming a father was by far my proudest moment and greatest achievement,” Ashley revealed while in tears. “I just thought for once in my life, because of her, I want to be the best person I can be.”
