NYSC confirms Tinubu’s culture minister still serving, says appointment wrong

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has reacted to the controversy surrounding the recent appointment of Mrs Hannatu Musawa, the Honourable Minister of Art, Culture and Creative Economy, over her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.

Recall, a group, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, had accused the Minister of serving as a minister while undertaking the one-year mandatory NYSC scheme.

In a statement on Thursday, HURIWA alleged that years back, Musawa abandoned her NYSC in Ebonyi state but later showed interest in completing it.  The group claimed that the minister was mobilised this year and got posted to a law firm in Abuja before her appointment. The group urged the NYSC to compel Musawa to focus on either her national youth service or the ministerial appointment.

Reacting to the development, Eddy Megwa, the Director, Press and Public Relations of the NYSC, in chat with Daily Trust on Friday confirmed that the minister had been serving for the past eight months in the FCT.
